About the owners
Carter White began sailing before he could walk, going on trips in the family Lightning and then in the family J/24. He cruised and raced the coast of Maine in a variety of boats and has experienced the beauty of the Gulf of Maine. Having sailed and raced on multiple continents and at hundreds of locations he still considers the Maine coast of one the best places in the world to sail.
An accomplished junior sailor Carter competed on the national level participating in multiple National Championships including the US Sailing Bemis and Sears competitions. He then took a chance on an upstart college program at Hobart and William Smith Colleges where he majored in Economics and joined an aggressive, young, new sailing team. He helped build the program into a national contender almost immediately and by his senior year, the program was ranked number one in the country. Carter was named All American for outstanding performance in inter-collegiate sailing competition.
After college Carter went to work for a local sailmaker in Maine where he learned sail design, built and repaired sails, installed marine rigging and managed this small business. He enjoyed helping grow this company into the leading local source for sails, canvas and rigging. During this time Carter sailed with many customers, helping them win major championships such as the PHRF New England Championships and Key West Race Week.
Carter ultimately started his own business running sailing regattas and providing custom apparel and marketing products to marine businesses and events which is still going strong today. Originally started in 2007 as Regatta Promotions, Carter, set out to help yacht clubs and sailing organizations run better regattas. Having successfully accomplished his mission, Carter and his wife, Molly are now offering their years of product knowledge and expertise through You Regatta.
Born in Chicago, Molly spent her early childhood living in Massachusetts, Nova Scotia, and eventually Maine. Spending summers in Maine and Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, she learned to love being on the water and sailing. While in college at Acadia University, she studied History and Art History and spent her summers driving the launch at Handy Boat and the Portland Yacht Club. She spent a year living in Japan just outside Tokyo, teaching conversational English and returned to Acadia to earn her Bachelors in Education.
Molly spent 18 years teaching 5th grade in Poland and Cumberland, Maine. For most of the summer months during her teaching career Molly coached sailing and also ran the Portland Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program. Eventually, Molly moved on to contributing to her sailing community by joining the Portland Yacht Club board of directors, serving as the fleet captain of the local J24 Fleet 43 of Casco Bay and as J/24 District 1 Governor. She currently is the President of the J/24 US Class Association. During this time Molly has chaired and run many events including; 2015 J/24 North Americans, 2018 US J/24 National Championships, multiple Opti State of Maine Championships as well as the 2020 Monhegan Island Race.
Molly is now running the day to day operations of You Regatta. She is most likely the person who will answer your phone calls and emails and is happy to send product recommendations for any need. She uses her love of art to help out with logo design and placement. You will often see her appear in product videos on the You Regatta Facebook page.
In her free time Molly loves to draw, paint, entertain, play her ukelele, and of course sail!
Together the Whites love to race their J/24 YouRegatta.com nationally and internationally and enjoy skiing during the New England winters.
